Toft Hill Bypass now on the cards (or is it ?)

It looks like Dehenna's choice of Toft Hill as her initial residence in the Bishop Auckland constituency has paid off as she fully understands the necessity of a Toft Hill bypass which has been discussed for the last 70 years. It is a big feather in her cap as she has convinced Rishi Sunak to incude it in his levelling up fund. So after 70 years of failure to implement the elimination of the tight right angle turn in the A68 at Toft Hill which is almost as nationaly known as Scotch Corner, the new road is all systems GO ! !

There is considerable public interest and no doubt a handful of dissenters as with any change in life but I am confident that the vast majority of Toft Hill and High Etherley residents will be overjoyed at the prospect of no longer having articulated lorries pounding through our village main road and the Parish Council meeting on the 8th July 2021 should be quite lively.

    Update 2025

Of the 5 options put forward by Durham County Council, (A to F without B) none of them are the optimum solution and I suggest an ideal route for the bypass to minimise traffic choosing to travel through Toft Hill.

This is initial sketch, the bumps along the route will be smoothed for final detail.

A Route H could be generated by moving the top roundabout to the place shown on Routes A to F
